Shōji Sakai

Editing 1950-04-13 Nagano Prefecture, Japan

Shōji Sakai is a Japanese film editor and director. In 1968, he entered the film department of Tama Art School (now Tama Art University). After graduating in 1971, he studied under editors Shunji Takemura and Osamu Tanaka as an assistant editor. Around 1975, he became an independent editor while working as an assistant director to director Kōji Seki. Around this time, director Kan Mukai founded Universe Productions, and pink films distributed by Toei began to be produced regularly, and since then, his editing work began to increase. At his peak, he edited 10 adult film works in a month. At the end of 2014, Okura Eiga (OP Eiga), which had continued to produce and distribute films on 35mm film, stopped producing films on film. As a result, film editing work also decreased dramatically. He has edited over 1,200 films (including V-cinema), and currently has 1,076 confirmed theatrical release titles (as of December 2017).
